Ahoy, Y’all!

This month is National Self Care Awareness Month! Here at Old Whaling Co., we believe in praising all forms of self care! Everyone takes care of themselves in different ways, and we want to celebrate our employees and their favorite ways to take time for themselves. This month is meant to bring awareness to the importance of self-care. This is a concept that is not always on the top of everyone's mind; life gets busy and it’s important to continue to check in with yourself.

What exactly is self care? It’s a way to connect with yourself and practise being in touch with your health. Self-care knows no boundaries. It is something that everyone, without any exclusions, can benefit from practicing on a daily basis. True self-care is not self-centered nor selfish; it is simply keeping yourself the focus of your own life. It’s about paying attention to how you feel in each moment, communicating clearly, speaking up for yourself and saying yes or no… guilt free,” National Day Calendar.

What are some examples of self-care? We asked our team how they practise self care and here is what they said!

Wholesale Manager Noelle Cork and Her Dogs

“I would say that taking my dogs for a long walk is my favorite form of self care! Time with the pups in nature and exercising is a great way to take care of myself and lift my spirits,” said Noelle, our Wholesale Accounts Manager.

“A nice face mask, a warm bath with an OWC bath bomb, and a candle to unwind after a long day! Also drinking plenty of water (even though I don’t, and need to do more of)!” expressed Hunter, one of our Retail Associates.

“I focus on self care by getting my nails done about once a month! And sleeping in on Saturdays!” share Jessie, a member of our fulfillment team!

Savannah, the other half of our fulfillment team duo said, “I try to leave one day a week where I don’t do chores, work, or exercise, and focus on myself and my hobbies. On those days I try to spend at least one hour outdoors! I always have a homemade margarita on Sundays!!”

Grayson, our shipping and fulfillment support team member practises self care by, “I build model trains, planes cars etc. I also treat myself to Waffle House!”

Camaron, our Production Manager, said, “I go on walks with my new puppy, I listen to music and find new music, and hang out with friends and explore Charleston!”

“I try to walk every morning for 30-60 minutes which allows me to enjoy the scenery and get grounded. I love listening to music, or a good podcast, when I walk,” said Heather, our VP of Sales and Marketing.

From walks to music to puppies, self care is important! Old Whaling Co., products are a great way to practice self care too. Treating yourself to a peaceful bath with a bath bomb, pampering yourself with a salt scrub, or enjoying a nice book and lighting a candle can set anyone’s mind at ease!

Old Whaling Company Candles

So take that nap or go on that walk! Celebrate yourself anyway that you see fit! It is even more important now to check in with yourself and give yourself some pampering! Check in with your friends and family to make sure they are doing some self care practices as well. And if they need a little reminder, we are happy to help curate a perfect gift box for them.
