Charleston’s Busiest Weekend in February: Valentine’s Day & SEWE

Mid-February is when Charleston begins to hum with energy again and the calendar starts to fill with some of the most anticipated events of the year. This year, Valentine’s Day weekend coincides with the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition (SEWE), the largest wildlife art and nature event in the country, bringing conservation based outdoor experiences and a lively atmosphere to the heart of downtown. With mild winter weather and a full lineup of events, February is an ideal time to plan a Charleston getaway! In addition to events, we always suggest shopping local on King Street, plus exploring our history, waterfront views, and award-winning dining. Whether you’re here for the exhibits or simply a romantic winter escape, there’s no shortage of things to explore!

The second weekend of February is one of the most exciting times to be in Charleston, SC, thanks to SEWE (the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition)—the city’s largest outdoor event dedicated to wildlife conservation. Check out the beautiful poster art for this years event, painted by Henry Von Genk III, above. Held in the heart of downtown Charleston, this weekend-long festival features awe-inspiring birds of prey exhibits, impressive dog skill and field demonstrations, nationally recognized wildlife art, and plenty of local food and family-friendly activities. With events spread throughout historic venues across the city, SEWE transforms Charleston into a lively celebration of nature, art, and Lowcountry culture, making it a must-see for visitors and locals alike!
